Hello CSE students,
Since there is only one of me and so many of you, I am attempting to answer
some of the general questions I have been receiving over e-mail.
The comprehensive list of technical electives is listed here
<https://www.egr.msu.edu/sites/default/files/content/UGS/MSU_CoEngr_Computer
Science_1.pdf> . The list does not indicate that the courses will be
offered every semester and/or year.
Updates on Technical Electives:
CSE 420-Architecture (Spring 2016)-Seat limit will be increased in the near
future. Please continue to check schedule.msu.edu
CSE 450-Seat limit may be increasing in the near future. Please continue to
check schedule.msu.edu
CSE 491-A course based on algorithms will be added in the spring 2016
semester. I do not have a date for when it will be added but please
continue to check schedule.msu.edu
CSE 491 (see options below) is still open for fall 2015 and spring 2016 and
the course will count towards your technical electives. If you are not an
Honors College student, then you will need to complete the override request
form here <https://secure.cse.msu.edu/override/> in order to enroll in the
course(s). You can enroll in no more than three (3) CSE 491 sections to
apply towards your technical elective requirement.
CSE 491 options:
CSE 491 Sec. 001-Biometrics (Fall only)
CSE 491 Sec. 002-Parallel Processing (Fall only)
CSE 491-Large Scale Data Analysis/"Big Data" (Spring Only)
Alternatives to Technical Electives #1
Some of you may be eligible to enroll in CSE graduate level courses. If you
are interested in a CSE graduate level course (CSE 8**), then you will need
to complete the override request form for CSE Grad Level courses at
https://secure.cse.msu.edu/override/.
Alternative to Technical Electives #2
You can substitute up to two (2) math/statistics courses for your technical
electives such as (but not limited to) MTH 299, 309, 314, 451 and STT 441
(you must meet prerequisites). If you have any questions about substituting
a math course, please let me know. Note: You cannot "double dip" math
courses which means that if you are using a math course to fulfill a cognate
or major requirement, then it cannot also count towards your technical
electives.
As always, please set alerts for courses that are full. Override requests
cannot be given for courses that are full to "room size" so please check the
seat limit and the room size before requesting an override.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact
me or schedule an appointment (link below).
Best regards,
Amber Benton, M.Ed.
