Dear CSE Students,

We need your participation in our new research project!

Biometric refers to the identification of humans by their
characteristics or traits. There are various types of biometrics
modalities, such as static modalities (fingerprint, iris), and dynamic
biometrics (gait, keystroke). Our project will explore a novel
biometrics modality, dynamic hand movement (DHM). We hypothesize that
when a user types on the keyboard, his or her movement of the hands
constitutes a unique signature that can be used to authenticate one
verse others. To validate this hypothesis, we need to collect a video
database of user typing on the keyboard, and use it for algorithm
development and evaluation. We plan to capture a video database of 30-50
volunteers. In our laboratory at EB 3114, we will have a webcam pointing
toward the keyboard, and record the video of each subject typing for
around 15 minutes. As an option, we may also record the sounds of typing
using the microphone embedded in the webcam sine the sound may carry the
discriminative information about a user's typing pattern. No face image,
subject name will be recorded.

The total time you spend on the data collection will be around 20
minutes. To thank your participation, we will enter each subject into
the drawing. Once the data collection is finished, we will select 10% of
all subjects by random, each of whom will be awarded a 50USD Amazon gift
card.

If you are interested in participation, please contact Joseph Roth
(roth.joseph.e at gmail.com <mailto:roth.joseph.e at gmail.com>) as soon as
possible to setup a time slot (starting Oct 15, 2012) for you. We aim to
complete the data collection in October.

Thanks for your time,

Xiaoming Liu
