Dear Engineering Students:
Three openings are available for MSU Engineering undergraduates to
support GET City <http://getcity.org/Home.html>, an NSF-sponsored,
year-round program for youth at the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing
<http://www.bgclansing.org/>, focused on the science and engineering of
energy sustainability. GET City is a collaboration between BGCL and the
Colleges of Engineering and Education at MSU. We use advanced
Information Technologies [IT] to provide youth with:
* Experiences with advanced IT skills (GIS, data management and
analysis, and communication tools);
* Opportunities to develop scientific research skills understanding
related to energy technology, production and sustainability;
* Job skills development for the IT market and an awareness of STEM
careers;
* A curriculum for informal science and IT education that can be
adapted for other urban communities.
This spring, we are offering modules on "Solar Power" (photovoltaics,
electrochemical solar cells, solar heating) "Fuel Cells" (hydrogen
energy, fuel cell cars) and are beginning to develop a module on
biofuels. Undergraduates will be asked to work 10 hours per week during
the semester, both on campus and at the Club, at a pay rate of $10/hour.
Transportation to the club will be provided and/or reimbursed.
All engineering-track undergraduates are eligible to apply. If
interested, please submit a resume by email to Dr. Scott Calabrese
Barton <scb at egr.msu.edu <mailto:scb at egr.msu.edu>> by Friday, January 23.
In the message, please indicate any available work study
funding, describe how you would like to contribute to the program.
Additional questions are also welcome.
