Abstract:
Developing software is hard work, especially for new products or new
market development. The demanding requirements of enterprise
applications such as security, stability, and reliability compound this
challenge. The companion areas of "lean development" and "agile methods"
have brought significant efficiencies to the realm of software
development in practical terms of how to effectively ship software of
value for users. Moreover, the "agile" approach treats developers as
professionals who makes important decisions minute by minute, whereas
older, traditional methods treat developers as skilled trades people who
need to be told what to do. Google is at the forefront of applying agile
principles to software development, and this talk conveys ways in which
Google applies these principles with our software professionals.
Bio:
Jamie Dinkelacker is the Enterprise Engineering Program Manager at
Google Inc., responsible for the Google Search Appliance, the Google
