Hi, John!
Please forgive my not having replied at all sooner. The last two weeks especially have been quite exhausting, and
the issues of conflict of interest and independent research begin to strain my knowledge of what is the best way to do things.
Actually... I see two grand challenges for the neural network field.
One of "mouse brain" challenge, which I already wrote about "briefly"
(but much more than one email!) in my 2009 paper in Neural Networks.
The other is the "human potential" challenge, which I am writing about
in a new paper submitted just this week to Neural Networks (a major effort!
very tricky!), in response to an invitation based on my paper of Dan Levine's session
at IJCNN2011.
At www.werbos.com, I gave a paper (slides and talk) with more detail about the cognitive prediction part,
and I just sent another one in press to Wiley about the cognitive optimization part.
Last week I gave some slides at the CLION symposium (see below) on some of the next steps I see as important.
I have been working with Robert Kozma on many of these.
It was funny... at the banquet for CLION, at Memphis, they surprised me for asking for a talk related to my talk at Lin Yi and Confucius Institute (Shandong)
this summer. I was worried they would think it was a bit crazy, but it seems people did enjoy it... at least as dinner entertainment.
I hope there will be some chance to discuss more and deeper, if and when Neutral Networks accepts the
paper which builds on that. But I am not sure about the ways to link with NSF and CLION (or even Tsinghua).
Maybe Jun Zhang can give some guidance.
Best regards,
Paukl
