[Bmi] Discussion of BMI Program 2012

The following is for some questions I have received:

-- I wish that BMI will be different from some conferences which aim at
a high rejection rate, but actually rejects papers that give
unconventional views, methods and results. As some of us on this BMI
list are discussing about, I think that group intelligence fails in many
peer review cases. I agree with Vojo that each reviewer has a
different objective function. This means that he tends to reject a
paper that does not agree with his mindset. How can BMI put procedures
into place to take care of that?

-- I assume that a BMI instructor will assign a TA he likes. It is
possible for a TA to take a course if he can take a heavy load. I assume
that grading should not be heavier than a normal summer 3 credit course.

-- Number of subject tests: By subject tests, we mean in one of the
home disciplines. Non-course participants are able to take an exam in
another time window, as listed in the preliminary program. As one
typically needs two summers to get a BMI 6DC, he does not need to rush
for the tests.
