POST-DOCTORAL POSITION
Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences
Indiana University – Bloomington IN 47405 USA

We invite applications for a post-doctoral position, working with Professors Linda Smith and Chen Yu on projects devoted to understanding the visual and sensory-motor components of early word learning in infants and children. The projects are organized around two large data sets, about 6 hours of in-home head camera video from 100 infants aged 1 month to 24 months and dual participant (parent-infant) data streams of head-camera, head-mounted eye-tracking, motion (head and hands) and audio from 100 toddlers and their parents (12 to 30 months of age) as they interact together with objects. This data set also includes measures of vocabulary and object name learning. The post-doctoral fellow is expected to take a lead role in defining conceptual questions, in data analysis, in designing new data collection, and in writing papers for publication. The fellow is expected to participate as a full partner in the research and in the intellectual life in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences and the Program in Cognitive Science.

Individuals with prior training in sensory-motor, attention, visual or language development, or individuals with training in computer vision would be excellent for this position. Good computational and data analysis skills, or an eagerness to learn, are essential. Familiarity with eye tracking methods is beneficial but not required.

START DATE: After June 1 and before September 1, 2015. We ask for a 2-year commitment to the position.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in Psychology, Computer Science, Cognitive Science or related field is required.

TO APPLY: Candidates should send a CV and three letters of recommendation to: Linda B. Smith, smith4 at indiana.edu<mailto:smith4 at indiana.edu>

Review of materials will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
