ACM members,

We hope to see you at Dr. Jain's presentation tomorrow. But I have some
big news from Microsoft regarding the "hackathon" I've mentioned before.
The plans have been finalized and the announcement is below. The event
will be held up in 3105 EB. Remember, there is both a workshop/information
session, and an actual 12 hour competition. See the announcement from
Microsoft and don't forget to register!

We will be out on campus *next week* hosting a series of events to
promote *“Big
Apps On Campus,”* a brand new nation-wide competition that is challenging
you to build the next best app for the Windows Phone! You’ll not only get
the opportunity to earn recognition for building the next BIG PHONE APP,
you’ll also get the chance to win some amazing prizes including a *windows
phone* you can test your app on!

We will be hosting a workshop on *Thursday, February 2nd at 6PM*. Here, we
will tell you all about how to create an app and give you the resources to
do so J In true MSFT style, we will be giving away a ton of prizes at both
this event and the actual hack itself, which will take place on *Saturday
February 4th at 12PM – 12AM!*

Join us in this AWESOME opportunity to not only explore the world of app
building, but what could grow to be an annual challenge for college
students such as yourself! *For more details and to register, please go to
http://msubigapponcampus.eventbrite.com/?ref=estw .*

Feel to free spread the word and let me know if you have any additional
questions!!

*The Basics: Here’s how to get started: *

1. Visit www.dreamspark.com to get step-by-step guidance on how to build a
Windows Phone App and to download the tools you'll need to get started. You
will need a *Live ID* in order to download the material.

2. Attend the *Big App on Campus Workshop *to learn how to take advantage
of the free development tools that Microsoft offers with Dream Spark to
build an app for the competition. Get advice from a professional developer
who will show you how to *design and implement the app you've been dreaming
about *using Silverlight and XNA.

*When? *Thursday, February 2nd at 6:00PM

*Where?** *3105 Engineering Building

4. Build an app at the 12 hour Hack-a-thon on Saturday, February 4th from
noon-midnight in 3105 and 3112 EB.
